One of the signature events of the University City District is the twice yearly Baltimore Avenue Dollar Stroll. This is your chance to easily check out all that University City's "Main Street " has to offer.
Everything will be priced at one dollar and you will be able to sample a wide range of restaurant offerings and learn about some of the other stores and services along Baltimore Avenue. This event starts at 5:30 and runs until 8:30 and I have learned from past events, to get there early as there will be lines for the most popular vendors. The party starts at 43rd and Baltimore and runs all the way up to 50th Street and you will find many things to drop a dollar of two on. Feeling in the mood for some ice cream? Little Baby's at 49th and Baltimore will be selling mini scoops of their great ice cream, or you can get an ice cream bar at Milk and Honey, 43rd and Baltimore. You can sample DanDan noodles from Chili Garden at 46th and Baltimore or get a spring roll from the neighborhood's long established Chinese take out place "Lucky"s, just up the block. If you are looking for something a bit more exotic, stop at Dahlak, the oldest Ethiopian restaurant on Baltimore Avenue for some Injera vegetable wraps. If your taste runs more to indian food, try a samosa from Desi Village in the 4500 block. Remember to bring back a treat or two for your furry friends from Baltimore Ave. pet shop at 45th and Baltimore.
To get a full listing of what is on offer, check out the map at Universitycity.org #Dollarstroll. And don't forget to get some "Puppy Love" from the Chester Avenue Dog Association booth at 47th and Baltimore, your contribution will help raise funds for Philly Red Paw emergency animal rescue.
